What if this were true.
What if it IS true.
This means the relationship that didn’t work out, the job opportunity that went to the suck-up in accounting, the life path that you may be silently questioning as you fall asleep at night…
You can’t screw it up.
Honoring your divine timeline requires an exorbitant amount of faith.
My son was quoting Tyler, the Creator (he’s a rapper mom) and said “sometimes you gotta close a door to open a window”.
I was presented with one of the most profound and humbling opportunities to travel to India with a brilliant woman that I deeply admire and respect, alongside spiritual teachers, PhD‘s, elders and high profile business folks. Not only were we going to travel to India together, we were to learn from Tibetan monks, visit the monasteries, and we’d also have an opportunity to meet with His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
My answer was an immediate yes.
Obviously yes.
I didn’t spend more than two minutes thinking about how I would do anything to make this work.
As the weeks progressed and I started putting the pieces together, I was carefully observing my son. This boy has been through it. In his short 12 years, he’s survived the divorce of his parents, the death of his dog, the death of his step father, and the death of my ex husband, his biological father …
He’s exceptional. Yes I’m biased, but also I can see it.
As the conversations continued about this magical and life altering trip to India, I could see hesitation behind his eyes.
Last week it was confirmed. He had serious reservations around me leaving.
I should add that this would be three of four trips within a 30 day period that didn’t include Beau. That’s a lot of travel, a lot of moving parts, and a lot of unknowns.
Saying YES to the opportunities that feel like a L E A P is my new favorite challenge - hence the gut punch around my need to politely decline this invitation. Getting past this determination was as hard as making it in the first place.
That’s my work, I suppose.
Talk about having to trust your intuition and load up on alllllllllll the blind faith.
Of the five or so people in my inner circle who were listening to me process this decision, can you believe all of them have said “this opportunity may come again…”
I laughed in their faces.
Maybe it will, y’all.
Crazier things have happened.
The thing is “I can not screw it up”.
You may do or say or choose something that alters the obvious time line and trajectory but that’s the thing about this life - it’s stranger than fiction, it’s surreal at times, and the best part is that it’s exactly what we need whether we can see the big picture yet or not.
Every road has beauty and growth, heartache and doubt.
You can’t outsmart God’s plan.
All the limbs bear fruit.
The short truth: You can’t screw it up.

xx
