We Keep What We Repeat.
Update… I may be a prophet.
Somewhere in the middle of a miserable full body workout I was rambling on about repetition being the language of the brain … And then I just blurted out we just keep what we repeat. I got all excited because obviously I’m like the Carl Jung of 2025.
It’s in the same vein of that saying that I love from Jim Kwik … If you fight for your excuses, you get to keep them.
Whatever you’re repeating … You’re keeping.
If you’ve not heard my breaking news, I’ve subluxed my sternoclavicular joint … Turns out hyper flexible bodies have more than just jump split party tricks up our sleeves … We can also pop our collar bones off the sternum.
Jokes aside it hurts like hell.
I’ve had to adjust recovery interventions, training styles, weight, load, and rest … But obviously, I need to be mindful of whatever I’m repeating.
For instance, I repeatedly take my shirt off to change out of one sweaty sports bra into another sports bra multiple times a day and that effort alone makes me nauseous.
I’ve seen the x-rays.
I’m doing PT, doing neuromuscular activation, wearing K tape.
I’m doing all the things.
So I’m proactive while allow my body to do what it does best … Be intelligent and awesome.
In the meantime, I’ve been in conversation with friends around grieving the loss of relationships, people, animals, collarbones, jobs and big life changes … It’s so interesting to me that we hang onto stories and the damaged goods a.k.a. painful baggage that these situations leave behind.
I was encouraged recently that the next time I come face to face with a ‘situation’ whether painful, unexpected, or challenging to say thank you and offer forgiveness, if needed.
Not sure about you but thank you and I forgive you aren’t always the first thing to pop into my mind during an unexpectedly frustrating time.
Don’t kill the messenger but I think there’s something to be said for trying this on. The next time something really shitty occurs if you can forgive the person (and sometimes that person is yourself) and say a heartfelt THANK YOU, a sense of lightness and joy starts to creep in …
Wouldn’t it be so rad if we could keep this by repeating it.
If we repeatedly practice an essence of gratitude, even during the ugly times, I think we can face recovery with open arms and a touch of ‘wow, I’m elevating’.
We say thank you for this backhanded opportunity to A SHIFT.
When push comes to shove - (bruh, I can’t wait to push and shove with my left arm) - whatever it is you’re repeating, you’re keeping.
Repeat wisely.
OKAYILOVEYOUBYEEE,
xx
Nic.

ppps. THE LATEST EPISODE OF SHOCK AND YALL IS OUT NOW and I’m speaking with GWEN DITTMAR. Through a 20 yr career in pharmaceutical and biotech research and consulting, 20 years as a coach for executives, entrepreneurs and a wide variety professionals, and 30 years of certifications, ranging from professional life, coaching, quantum human design, Reiki mastery, breath work, Four Winds shamanic energy medicine, somatic experiencing as well as holding a masters in spiritual psychology, Gwen created the somatic medicine (TM) process which encourages clients to use all of their human experiences – the good, the bad, and everything in between - to heal grow and expand as humans and reconnect with our souls. I met Gwen in a split second at an event and was immediately drawn to her grounded and clear energy. She just gets it.
In fact as a child, she became aware of her psychic gifts and struggled with illness as a teen. After a near death experience at the age of 14 Gwen realized our human experiences were simply invitations to deeper healing, growth and expansion. These are the conversations I live for. The sort of ((coaching)) and mentorship that changes lives. This is an incredibly powerful conversation.
