The SONIC Scaries...
*A note before reading: There is no judgement in this message. Live your life at all costs. These are just opinions and thoughts…
If you are in my MARCH FIT group I apologize for retelling this ridiculous story. At least this time around it’s more concise, has a moral and none of us are actively doing weighted hip thrusts.
I’m assuming.
Sunday I had the DISpleasure of going to SONIC for the first time in my life. Not the movie, the drive up burger joint. Beau played 2 back to back basketball games and wanted a milkshake. We (Beau, myself and my mom and dad) were all starving. I thought - FINE - we’ll eat this scary-looking fast food just this once and at least Beau can get his Peanut Butter milk shake.
Upon pulling up, I immediately regretted my choice. It was too late. We were parked. Beau had spotted the 101 flavors of shake options and we were off to the races.
Y’all. Not one thing on the menu was remotely healthy. I mean no ‘grilled’ anything. I did see one leaf of lettuce pictured on the double smash burger so there’s that.
If you’ve been to Sonic and you knew this, that’s great for you. I was dumbfounded.
I ordered chicken tenders thinking well, there’s protein in there somewhere.
We got the “food” and I was so disappointed with my decision. Regardless I was starving, along with all the humans in my car, so we ate it.
By the last bite, I was DONE done. Normally I’d just chock this up as a desperate decision made on the fly but this time I had a 37 minute drive home to think about the way I felt.
The first bite was tasty. It was like a night in Vegas for my tastebuds. I can see the appeal. After a few more bites, the realization that what I’d just consumed was going to be metabolized into my bones, blood, brain tissue, muscle and fat was frustrating. After coming off the Michelin style culinary experience of chef Natalie on our Ojai retreat, followed by a stunning catered 50th birthday celebration for my friend Rachel in Mexico … my tastebuds had grown to be super BOUGIE.
Just my taste buds, y’all … nooooooothing else.

Within 10 minutes I wanted to nap.
I was driving so this was extra obnoxious.
I noticed my tummy was like GIRL, WHY…
What I observed in my thinking wasn’t judgement about eating fast food but rather recognition that this is not how I want to treat my precious, gorgeous, brilliant body.
It takes a lived experience to identify why and how HEALTH is wealth.
Have you ever been super sick? All you care about is good health.
Have you ever been seriously inured? All you care about is good health.
Perspective is the true equalizer. When you stop identifying the circumstance as the issue and see your thoughts and feelings about it as the tool they truly are, you can take ownership of the moment.
Back to Sonic.
It’s true, my privilege was showing yet I consistently go out of my way to maintain a clean and informed diet because YOU LITERALLY ARE WHAT YOU EAT.
Your physiology is built from food, transformed at the cellular level. I can’t control how my body interprets the food but I can control what food I put in my body. I wanna be clean, informed, strong, healthy, fresh; so I do my best to choose food that supports my mission. The ROI is pretty solid.
Honestly, if you need to test this theory - just grab a meal from Sonic.
On those days where you’re feeling like a bump on a log just make sure you’re not eating fried chicken bumps.
That’s all I’m saying.
No regrets. Lots of lessons though.
OKAYILOVEYOUBYEEE,
xx
Nic.
