Pay Attention
As I was driving to deep Orange County Sunday afternoon, I was on an internal high.
I had a really busy and beautiful Saturday and I woke up Sunday morning feeling like “the prize”.
Now everybody SIT DOWN.
This is not some ego trip about how great I am - far from it.
It was a very distinct and clear feeling that for the most part, I’ve directed my energy (my attention) toward exceptional people, situations, and experiences.
As I continued to putter down the So Cal freeways, listening to my music, or rather Beau’s music ... which thankfully is not Alice in Chains right now 🙄 ... I began to dissect what had shifted overnight.
Most people will go their whole lives without recognizing this… Your attention is the only thing that makes reality real for you.
Really sit with that.
Do we know if a tree makes a sound if no one‘s around to hear it fall?
You exist in this game of life because your attention makes it so.
What do you see?
What narrative have you written about it?

If you’ve been on my list and receiving these emails, none of this is a revelation.
If you are new - hiiieee - it will just keep being weird around these parts.
Welcome, friend.
What happened on Sunday was a frequency shift.
I woke up feeling grateful and I let it permeate every next step. Every thought.
I just allowed it to remain ‘good’.
I had wonderful conversations. Serendipitous things were happening. I could feel the day’s energy heightened and I made mental notes about how blessed I felt.
I’m not exaggerating.
It was all of that.
Whenever a day feels ‘this good’ I panic a bit because typically the following day is a little off. I wanted to challenge myself to see if I could continuously pull my attention and my energy toward the miracles.
I did it!!
Monday was great too.
The prize is whatever I pay attention to.
The text that came through at 2:22 PM, the song lyrics that immediately answered the exact question I asked in my mind, the blind DM that turned into a powerful mini therapy session, the testimonial from a new student in the group chat, the way my son called me “mommy” and didn’t mean it sarcastically…
And the way I laid my head down at night in my cozy AF bed, full of gratitude for every single moment.
I’m winning.
I’m the prize.
We all are.
What would it take for you to remember, feel and become the prize in this very moment?
… pay (direct) attention (energy) …
OKAYILOVEYOUBYEEE,
xx
Nic.

Ppppps. NEW EPISODE OF SHOCK AND Y’ALL IS OUT NOW. In this episode, I’m speaking with Katie Rexing. Katy Rexing is a meditation teacher, podcast host, chef, mother of four, yogi, and lifelong student of what it actually means to feel well… not just look functional. And what I love about her story is that it’s not this dramatic ‘burn my life down and move to Bali’ transformation. It’s subtler than that. Which somehow makes it hit harder. For years, Katy did what so many women do—she became exceptional at managing life. Performing life. Optimizing life. Taking care of everyone else in life. And somewhere in the middle of all the roles—wife, mom, business owner, caretaker, achiever—she realized she had become wildly disconnected from herself.
Not broken.
Not failing.
Just… gone.
And after decades of chasing the illusion that happiness lived somewhere outside of her—in a cleaner house, a smaller body, a bigger business, older kids, more approval—she started doing something radical…She slowed down long enough to actually meet herself. Now through meditation, mindfulness, her podcast WithIn, and her retreat work, she helps women reconnect to the version of themselves that existed before the performance review of life began.
