More Might Be Enough.
There’s nothing worse than burning the candle at both ends, knowing you’ll be paying for these decisions but simultaneously certain that life is too good not to be savored - so you toe the edge.
You stay up late.
You grab the drink. (it may or may not have included Absinthe)
You say yes to the motion capture job that requires 6 hours of dancing for 3 days straight.
You organize and plan fellow parent drivers, sports uniforms, volunteer duties and school lunches because you’ll be out of town for the week.
You sacrifice sleep for the phone call.
You wake up early to check emails and get a cup of coffee in peace.
You roll your lazy ass off the sofa with a broken toe and 17 minutes to shower, get dressed and do your hair and makeup for your friend’s 50th birthday dinner in DTLA.
And you don’t regret a single choice because it turns out, more might be enough.
I’m also a fan of the saying LESS IS MORE - it hits on most accounts.
But the living is worth a little ‘more’.
After a week of busting out my best freestyle dance moves in San Francisco with a broken toe, returning to 6am online classes, clients, admin, podcast recordings, mom-life, and a social schedule that hit it’s breaking point - I learned something.
I GET TO HAVE THIS.
Stay with me a sec …
I was averaging 5.5 hours of sleep a night last week.
I do not encourage this behavior. I hate it actually. I CHERISH my sleep routine and the week’s metrics were not ideal.
So by 5:38pm on Saturday, after teaching 3 classes on 5 hours sleep, driving from Norwalk to Santa Monica to the South Bay and then mentally planning a drive into DTLA, I was thisssssssss close to texting and bowing out.
But 2 things are true.
The man we were celebrating is a true OG. He is worth the investment because he’s a rare gem of a friend. Twenty five years of friendship and growth deserve presence. Despite not seeing him in a decade, there was no doubt he was worth my effort.
I don’t want to miss quality time with quality people. I’m just not doing it anymore. Death has an eery way of showing you your own mortality and the fragility of connection. The laughs, the awkward silence, the storytelling, the new friends that appear seemingly out of ‘nowhere’ … welp, that’s the best part of LIFE.
Back to Saturday night.
I arrived an hour after cocktails and made it just in time for the sit down dinner. Right away I handed Sean his handmade Etsy sherpa blanket of our most iconic moment in front of Mt. Rushmore while on our cross country tour in 2003 or something … he loved it.
Moments later I set my purse down at the table, went to the bar for my Fortaleza reposado on ice, and when I came back everyone had taken their seats. I found my purse and tried to casually slip into my chair. As I pulled it out, Sean seated across from me, said “Nic have you met my friend Austin?” I looked to my right and stretched out my hand.
It was Austin Butler.
The actor. Elvis. That evil guy in Dune.
I was like “um no sir I haven’t met your friend Austin Butler”. lol
He was delightful.
The dinner was fabulous.
The conversations had me cackling.
The storytelling and the reminiscing and the the sheer brilliance at this table was LIFE GIVING.
IT WAS MORE. AND MORE WAS ENOUGH!!
It was exactly what I needed.
Smart, successful, humble, kind, interested and interesting people all in one setting - sign me up!!
I’m so glad I didn’t grow roots into my sofa and miss the chance to reconnect with long time friends and meet new humans from all walks of life.
The dinner was a hand selected bunch of about 15 people. All of whom are toeing the edge. Some in conventional ways and some in the most unconventional ways imaginable.
I loved every second.
Proof that more is enough.
The exact amount of ‘more’ you need to be lit from within …
Have I mentioned how much I love my life?
I do.
Like I just can’t say it enough.
More Life gives you more of what you didn’t know you needed.
OKAYILOVEYOUBYEEE,
xx
Nic.

ppps. NEW EPISODE OF SHOCK AND Y’ALL IS OUT NOW. I’m speaking with DAVID GERBER. David is a partner, speaker, and transformational coach with Novus Global, where he works with professional athletes and high-performing leaders to break through the invisible ceilings that keep even the most successful people playing small. For over a decade, David has been in the business of helping people unlock something deeper than productivity or achievement — aliveness. The kind that changes how you lead, how you move through the world, and how much impact you’re capable of having when you stop operating from limitation. His ideas clearly resonate — his TEDx talk has been viewed more than a million times — but David’s work doesn’t just happen on stages or in boardrooms. He’s also a certified lion tracker. Yes… actual lions. David leads transformational tracking experiences in South Africa, where leaders step out of the comfort of conference rooms and into the raw, unpredictable wilderness. Using ancient tracking practices and powerful coaching conversations, he helps people reconnect to vision, purpose, and the untapped potential that often gets buried under titles, expectations, and noise.
