In the Box or the Bank: check yes or no.
Two years ago I shared a brief TikTok about the first time I stepped into a voting booth in my early 20s.
I remember vividly walking in with my parents and I was so proud to be there participating in the legacy of this great country.
Young rebellious Nicole wrote on the ballot (we had to use actual pens back then) “Are these my only options?” Feeling so inflated and delighted with my power, I dropped the ballot in the box, took 2 steps forward and set off all the alarms.
My parents eyeballs bugged out of their rule abiding bodies and I just froze.
Turns out you can’t just write your personal thoughts on an election ballot.
Weird.
*20 year old Nicole just expressing herself in public.
I also remember feeling frustrated because I wasn’t sold on either candidate.
To be honest, I’ve never been sold on a candidate.
One of the more fascinating aspects of politics is how people can be emblazoned and “die hard” over a person. I guess I’m still waiting.
Of course they’re going to be issues that resonate deeply with certain individuals on incredibly personal levels. If we’re being honest, which is a funny word to use in regard to politics, the policies are what we should be “dying hard” over and yet we make it a homecoming court, of sorts.
That’s life. And life imitates art. And art is theater and theater as always, is a spectrum of tragedy and comedy.
Tragedy and comedy, truth and fiction, information and “missing” information.
It’s never been more convoluted.
Above and beyond your vote today… Are you able to love the people in your life that hold different perspectives and views, after they cast the ballot for “the enemy”?
I think this deserves attention because largely we want the same things and what matters is that you are taking daily actionable steps to create the life you desire and the world you (and our future generations) want to inhabit.
Would you say you fight as loudly and largely for your own health and well-being as you do for a political party? I really, really hope so.
We’ve all heard the saying …
“A healthy person has a thousand wishes, a sick person just one.”
My November Fit group is working on a little homework exercise this month. In regard to the “Bank of YOU” what are the debits and deposits you experience when you are and are not prioritizing your health? These ladies are incredibly bright, clever, vulnerable and I love the answers they’ve been sharing.
Debits:
Mean to everyone
Lack of energy
Loss of muscle mass
Impatience
Self-sabotage
Continue to stagnate
Stiff body
Big things feel harder
Scarcity mindset
Deposits:
Motivation to care for my WHOLE self
More energy
Start my day off with the right mindset, laughter, sweat
More joy, silliness
Longevity
Feeling sexy, confident, self-assured
A Plump peach and more muscle everywhere
Internal tone of peace and calm
Affirming my worth
These were just a few examples I snagged from our chat. This tells me that we have resources and reasons to check YES in the box of “I’M WORTH IT”.
When we tend to ourselves, we can tend to the world.
I pray for an awakened future every day.
My belief is that we are on our way … and as I’ve been shown time and time again, that path is never linear.
Check the box, don’t write on the ballot, and keep it moving…

xx
