Hi. My name is Nicole Sciacca and I’m now the unofficial-super-fan-cheerleader-mascot for the book THE 12 WEEK YEAR by Brian P. Moran and Michael Lennington.
*not sponsored.
Apparently this book has been around since 2013 and I’m late to the parrr-tay, again.
These 2 sentences just reframed an entire mountain of an issue.
“While we plan for the future we act in the day. To be truly effective, your daily activity must align w your long term vision, strategy, and tactics.” - Sir William Osler
It’s execution.
I know a bunch of stuff about stuff.
(can you tell. lol)
I love learning.
Those of you’ve who’ve taken my classes or trained with me have likely heard my schpeal (how do you spell this word?) about seizing the day, claiming the moment, staying present, etc. I DEEEEEEEPLY resonate with this and when I’m in the company of folks who ‘are missing it’, I feel weighted down like a hamper of wet socks.
I scream inside “can’t you see it’s now or never - this moment matters”.
What happens in the moment is what compounds for your day, your week, your 12 weeks, your 12 month calendar year, and then whoa … where did that decade go …
The moment (for most of us) is not simple.
It’s layered.
It’s moving.
It’s a warm bed at 5:20am.
It’s a glass of wine to wind down.
It’s costing us moneyyy.
…and on and on and on…
In this book, the concept of a 12 Week Year is that 12 weeks is long enough to get shit done, test systems, and still feel a sense of urgency. It’s not the big hairy mountainous goal that’s 364 days away, it’s the average sized hill that’s just around the corner.
If hearing this begins to crank your anxiety, I’m with you.
I wanna learn it all, see it all, read it all, and be it all too.
Lemme just say; it helps to focus on a single day.
The alternatives are just not as cute.
The book breaks down one day as a week, one week as a month, 12 weeks as a year…It’s pretty ingenious. There are so many directions to go in sharing the takeaways and I’m not even 3/4 of the way through this book however I felt compelled to share this one concept:
Execute one freaking day.
Here are my nonnegotiables when it comes to “sane and productive” DAILY Nicole:
7 and a half hours of good sleep. Minimum. It used to be 5 or 6 but that was my twenties - we don’t play childish games anymore.
A gratitude practice before my feet hit the floor. I’ve shared this many times. It’s an ongoing prayer-mantra of appreciation that I say immediately out loud when I wake up. “I’m so grateful and happy that I opened my eyes, for these sheets, for this fluffy dog, for my sleeping son, for all that I have and all that will unfold for the day, etc”. It takes 2-3 minutes and is always worth it.
A workout. Lord have mercy this is #1 if these were in proper order. I must sweat out the pounding crazy loop of lunacy that accompanies my personal narrative. And I want muscle. And I want dense bones. And I must be able to hold my own against my enormous man-boy. And I want to be useful and reliable. And sarcopenia skips no one - so I choose accordingly.
The Elephant Parade text thread check in. These 3 cherished women are available at all hours to hear me out, offer advice, remind me who the hell I am, and keep me accountable.
A mentor. Actually a couple of them currently. They are pushing me with love to bravely face all the things and to seize the day.
Coffee.
Dog walks. They are technically for Moose but I would be lost without them. I get joy, steps, time in nature, and a reframe all in 30 minutes. 5 Stars. Highly recommend.
Sit down dinners with Beau.
Does all of this happen every single day? OF COURSE NOT.
Does all of this happen most days? YES ‘EM.
Am I better for it, absofreakinglutely.
Did you notice not all of this is work related? The structure of your week must, I repeat must include the offerings that fill YOUR cup on a personal and spiritual level or the professional side will always be off kilter. You’ll be chasing your tail blaming Mary Ann in accounting when it’s just because you haven’t touched actual GRASS in 3 weeks.
How will you execute tomorrow?
What are your NEEDS for Wednesday 4/24/24? Oh I like this numerical sequence y’all…do you see it? Feels whimsical.
Put your phone down and make a list…or fine…keep holding your phone and move to your ‘notes’ app and make a list.
Give yourself a FULL WEEK to attempt to implement each need for that day.
Don’t beat yourself up if you miss one or two - just give it your all.
If you’d like to share your list with me or how it’s going - I’ll be here.
There is something kinda CUTE about executing on your non-negotiable daily actions.
Give it a go and let me know.
THAT RHYMES!!!!
Let’s exeCUTE.
(said that in my cheerleader voice - did you hear it.)
OKAYILOVEYOUBYEEE,
xx
Nic.

pps. MAY FIT 2024 is up next. We begin 5/3 and if you haven’t heard about this yet…Allow me to explain:
This program will challenge you, wake you up, that doesn't take 2.5 hours out of your day and that reminds you that building resilience and strength can be tough and fun, all at once. It’s smart. It’s brief. It’s enjoyable. It’s live (or/and on demand) and it’s only 13 classes over 30 days.
This month, we’ll be meeting Friday 5/3 at 9am PST / 12pm EST for about an hour and per usual it’s “SWEAT-FREE” however we will be doing a bit more “work in” than working out.
We will be sharing quick intros, answering questions and participating in a visualization/meditation on future you. We will also be doing a little bit of homework that I’ll share in detail (different than the last 2 month’s assignments) on our call but please know this is a short and powerful ask that will absolutely help elevate you in whatever ways you’re willing to grow.
We’ll start our regular strength training the following day Saturday 5/4 with a full body class and if you can’t make these classes live, you’ll have them on demand for the month as always. The rest of the schedule breaks down like this:
M / W / F 6:30-7:05am pst (Lower, Upper, Yoga)
SAT 7:15-8am pst (Full body)
The IG chat group is a special treat as all the women are so fun, FUNNY, kind, supportive, and accountable to one another. It makes the month that much better.
