When you sort through your life chapters would you say that you veer toward adventure or do you lean toward … (this isn’t the greatest choice of words but) … regret?
No judgement. I’m just asking.
I’ve got quite a line up of big things I’m embarking on in Q1. It’s exciting. I’m grateful. I’m also a wiiiiittle nervous if I’m fully transparent.
Some of these opportunities are work related, some are continued education, some are social/fun, and some are huge leaps of faith. How and WHY have I stacked Q1 like this … I’ll tell you … I had no control over it.
A few of these biggies were pre decided for me and a few others are gateways.
Gateways in that they require that I choose myself, my story, my expansion over what’s comfortable.
I think remaining comfortable can, not always - but sometimes, guard us in the now moment but years down the line we find a tinge of regret?
One of my favorite Dr. Joe Dispenza quotes/concepts comes from his “Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself” book. It’s one of the most powerful descriptors of remaining the same. I’m paraphrasing but:
Your present personality has created the present reality you’re sitting with today. It’s truly impossible to create a new reality with the same thoughts, same feelings, same choices, same behaviors, and as long as this continues you hard wire your brain into a familiar signature. The signature of your reality, as it is right now. Whenever you make your brain work differently, you make a new synaptic connection which is the beginning of transformation. When you choose to learn new things, think new thoughts, experience new feelings, choices and behaviors then we begin to see a world of opportunity. When you change your ‘personality’, you will create a new personal reality.
So does your environment create your reality or does your personality create your personal reality?
It’s a lot to think about AND it’s worth thinking about!!
The most unwelcome shifts that have come into my life have been blessings as well. Hear me loud and clear; a few have been totally F’d up. Processing those feelings and situations has been the backdrop of my life for the last 18 months and the witness in me can see that I’m a better person now.
It’s uncomfortable to say that out loud.
I’m better because I was loved by Matt and co-parenting with Leland.
The loss of both these men has been monumental.
I’m a better person now.
Their influence and presence in my life mattered.
Death is a gateway. It’s a shift. Whether it’s the death of your job, the death of your cat, or the death of someone you love. I think the trap is resisting the shift. I don’t have many regrets when I think back on the way I showed up for Matt and for Leland. This is important. I can see that version of me did her best.
Shifts will be unforeseen and shocking, shifts will be conscious, shifts will be subtle, shifts will go unnoticed by the people around you however, shifts are happening.
If you’re in the market for a dash of adventure, you can choose to shift.
If you’re in the market for maintaining the same comforts, you will be forced to shift, if not now - at some point.
My suggestion (ignore it if you like) is to make the small shifts today.
Practice makes progress and in this instance becoming a better version of yourself feels like an adventure worth taking.

ppps. Episode 53 of SHOCK AND Y’ALL is out now with the beautiful and brilliant KARINE NASSIM HIRSCHHORN. She is a true connector. Her story is as impressive as it is heart wrenching. Karine and I share a devastating commonality of having suddenly lost the loves of our lives yet Karine’s mission has never been more clear. She connects people not only through her gifts in business but by example.
