I’m a creature of habit.
Every weekend I hit up the Sprouts market in my hood - wait did I tell you about the woman on Tik Tok who recognized me at Sprouts and made a comment on one of my videos like “I saw you at Sprouts last week”! I said “WHAT…why didn’t you say hi?”…She said “well I smiled at the magic of the moment, but I will next time.”
That was wild.
Now this past weekend I was doing my thang, spending all my hard earned money on overpriced eggs and grass fed beef. As I waited my turn to checkout I noticed the man in front of me was on a mission.
With his wife standing idly by, he was neck deep in Bible talk. Raving about how everyone has gotten it wrong. Jesus didn’t say this and Jesus didn’t say that and our biggest problem nowadays is philosophy!
Sir, I think philosophy is like number 14768.
My attempt at eavesdropping was not stealth. I was wide eyed looking at the cashier, looking at him, watching his wife. What a scene. When he finally walked away, I sheepishly smiled at her:
Cashier: “well I guess I don’t need church for another month”.
Me: (laughing) “yeah that was a lot.”
Cashier: “The first thing he said to me was what is your goal? I said ‘sir, I’m just trying to make it to 5:30 today’. He said ‘well my goal is to open a church…just for hispanics”.
Me: Oh, hmmm, okay.
Cashier: (who is black) So I guess I’m not allowed to go to his church anyway.
Me: (speechless…)
As we talked through this, I began to pack my own groceries. This is typical for me because I’m a weirdo - I like to pack the bags in accordance with how I’ve organized my fridge/pantry for efficiency when I unpack aaaaand I like to be of service to keep the line moving. When that man was talking AT HER he stood there pointing his finger, preaching while she packed all of his groceries into the bags.
Don’t talk about it, be about it.
If this man had been gentle, curious, open to her, helpful, and considerate; I’m certain his message would have been received differently.
Your energy precedes you. I’ve met numerous high profile, high achieving change makers and let me tell you the coolest ones have treated me like I AM THE ‘BIG DEAL’. The humility to stay open to others is what interests me. If you think you’ve seen it all, done it all, or have all the concrete answers…you’re probably not subscribed to my shit. Hahahaha. Seriously though, that’s not the vibe.
Actions over words.
Don’t kill the messenger but...You have to act. You have to do the thing. You can’t talk about it to death. You can’t dream it into existence without sacrificing some blood, sweat, and tears. Suffice it to say nothing changes unless you take action. There’s a quote on my website:
“You don’t need motivation to start. You need to start to get motivation.”
When you’re in process, much is revealed - often times that includes the motivation to continue or the inspiration to learn/do more. The last 2 months I’ve shared that I’ve been making big personal edits. Cleaner eating patterns, hormone replacement therapy, more walks, more training, more continued education, and more socializing. It’s working. When you take direct action you will see a change. If the change is not proving to be the desired outcome, guess what…you take different action.
Empty words are the self check out express line of life. You can zoom in and out as you please.
Actions are the full cart, cashier operated line. You place it down, they ring it up. There’s a transaction…literally and metaphorically. When the exchange takes place then you can decide…do I need $12 eggs today or maybe we just eat Cup O Noodles from here on out…
Actions over words.
Always.
OKAYILOVEYOUBYEEE,
xx
